My name is Milena Menezes Carvalho and I’m currently a doctor student at the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, University of Tokyo, working as a student trainee at the Lab. for Neural Circuit Theory, RIKEN Brain Science Institute under the supervision of Dr. Tomoki Fukai.

Concerning my academic background, I pursued both my BSc in Computational Physics and my MSc in Physics at the São Carlos Institute of Physics, University of São Paulo, under the supervision of Prof. Leonardo Paulo Maia. From my very first undergraduate research project I have been interested in computational neuroscience and its interplay with physics, staying in the same field to this day.

In my past research I’ve focused on studying neuronal avalanches in different network set-ups, resulting in a undergraduate research project funded by FAPESP. Later on, I studied computational models of the rat hippocampus and its strikingly skewed distributions of various neuronal features as part of MSc project, funded by CAPES.

Now, as a MEXT scholar, I wish to study plasticity mechanisms in the MAT2 lognormal network and their effects on sequence propagation, among other interesting features.
